South Walney - The sea, the sea

Off South-East Point, South Walney
Sounds of the sea accompany us all the way to Walney Lighthouse and Haws Point.   I don't recall hearing the sea so loud on windy Walney and seascapes are wonderful.  All this, enhanced by solitude.  Somewhere out there is a Great Northern Diver.  Waves break on the rocks and sea foam gathers on the shore.
In early December such beautiful light is precious.   Tracks from Lighthouse Cottages are puddled, telling of days of rain.  And named storm Bram is waiting in the wings, forecast for tomorrow.
From the sea-hide we look north toward the spit where rough seas break about the colony of grey seals.  In hazy sunlight the colony resembles a boulder-field but we know this place and can make out pale seal pups that  slither away from  breaking waves.  Sea-spray and saturated air give the scene the look of a painting,  impressions rather than pin-point clarity.
A Hapo crane barge slowly makes its way out of the channel.   Whatever its purpose  it puts to flight gulls foraging amongst the seals,  a flock suddenly much larger than had been visible.  The crane's platform would be the perfect spot from which to look down on the seal colony.
Rough seas break about the colony but on the landward side of the bay there's calm water, shades of aquamarine with gloss and ripples.    At this season the salt marsh is green-gold and a fine contrast.
