Plover Hill from Swarth Gill Gate watershed Limestone country: of cave, shake hole and pot hole. At Swarth Gill Gate look up toward Plover Hill. The gill is a tributary of Hull Pot Beck where a cascade plunges deep into Hull Pot, and vanishes underground, to Ribblesdale.
We headed north off Plover Hill: an icy descent via Foxup Moor. Plover Hill was my choice but an easier route is to take the Pennine Way west off Pen Y Ghent, taking in a cave and Hunt Pot. Next time.

Swarth Gill Gate is a watershed. The gill is within the Ribblesdale catchment. Foxup Beck flows east into the River Skirfare, joining Pen Y Ghent Gill into Littondale. A Norse resonance in the names.
Along A Pennine Journey we had constantly changing perspectives on Pen Y Ghent. The morning snow had melted and cloud had bubbled up during the day. The pastures about Horton in Ribblesdale were lively with lambs, chickens and a cockerel.
