Far Easedale, Calf Crag, Gibson Knott, Helm Crag

Picture5 October 2017
Becks  brim-full , Sour Milk Gill a cascade of whiteness and every waterfall that ever flows pouring off the fells- rainbow in water droplets,  rock gleaming wet.  Up into Far Easedale, looking  into  sunlit waterfalls, by the tarn at Brownrigg Moss, over Calf Crag, Gibson Knott, Helm Crag - the sun gleaming off Easedale Tarn and threads of light on the meandering beck down in the dale.  A wondrous day.

It’s a different perspective, this clock-wise route up Far Easedale.   A great boulder, crested with a stone wall, never noticed that before.  Familiar sheepfolds beside Far Easedale Beck. Looking back down the dale,  the meandering beck gleams.
The Fall, the coming of autumn, is more than the woods and falling leaves. There's the fall of water off the fells and down into the dales.  The fall of autumn colouring a peat landscape of  cols, wet hollows and sumps where cotton grass, deer grass and mosses take on the  deep red tints of October, beside tarns where blue sky reflects, for a moment, in intense colour.
Perspectives on a sweep of fells, in sunlight and in deep shadow.
It's a day of sensation: warm sunlight, sound of wind through moorland grasses, tumbling cascades, squelch of saturated ground beneath our feet, and all around us the becks and stone walls illuminated by the sun.
.
From the ridge,  approaching  Helm Crag, we look down on Easedale Tarn ( top right) ,  sunlit, shadowed, and the network of gleaming becks in Far Easedale.  Left of centre, this image shows Stythwaite Steps crossing the beck. When the light is strong and there's so much water in the landscape it's fun match image to map and retrace our footsteps.

We gathered in awe beside the waterfall.  Force- a waterfall.  My video is full of sound and power- of wind and water.  The image gives the scene a calmness and tranquillity.

Thanks to Hilary for a memorable walk on a splendid autumn day.
