Footway from Brigsteer Road toward Scout Scar

12/12/2022

PictureLeft, an isolated stretch of pavement to Brigsteer Rise
A stretch of pavement from Brigsteer Rise downslope toward Kendal has recently been opened.  To serve walkers bound for Scout Scar it needs to link with two further stretches, one above and one below.
We request that the new pavement is extended directly to the access road to Stainbank Green, uphill on the left of the image.
This week we are invited to comment on  application  SL/2022/1077

SL/2022/1077   Here's what I submitted

I request an urgent on-site consultation, residents and planners, to ensure that the direct and continuous footway from the junction of Underwood/Brigsteer Road to Scout Scar is fit for purpose.
SL/2022/1077 is written by planners for planners.  We who walk this way daily, this millenium, have our feet on the ground. We ‘re local, we live here, we are invested in this place.   Ours is the immediate experience, not the theory.
A footway is for feet, it’s in the name.  The only wheels on a pedestrian pavement should be pushchairs and the disabled.  So please arrange an on-site consultation BEFORE the plan is considered.
As the Brigsteer Rise development progresses I’ve studied what pedestrians need, in consultation with residents. I have shared evidence and suggestions with SLDC.  I urge you to read 3 blogs on my website

Hi Jan, walked up brigsteer rise today, only to discover the road reduced to one lane by a 2 meter pavement, careful what you wish for, this country road can not handle the new development, I was expecting a narrow pavement and keep the rural appearance. Before the development I don't believe any walkers were bothered about having to use a minor road.
Keep up the good work
